BHUBANESWAR: A massive fire erupted at a tyre resoling (retreading) godown at Mancheswar Industrial Estate in the wee hours of Sunday. However, no injuries were reported as it was closed and no staff were present at the site.

On receiving the information at about 3.30 am, seven fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. As water alone is often ineffective at stopping a tyre fire, the firefighters sprayed foam to extinguish the flames.

Deputy fire officer Narayan Dash said the fire personnel also used a robotic monitor during the operation. “Initial investigation suggests the fire broke out in the godown due to a short circuit. However, probe is continuing to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident,” Dash added. Owner of the godown Sudhakar Dash said goods, machinery and equipment worth Rs 1 crore were gutted in the incident.
