CHENNAI: The Tiruvallur District administration is in its final stages of sending a detailed proposal for a new residential colony for the Sri Lankan Tamils living in Puzhal camp.
This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin here on Saturday.
Addressing a gathering of Lankan Tamils during a free CTV distribution function at the camp premises here, Stalin said, “The plan for a modern residential colony for the Tamils living in the camp, estimated at a cost of Rs 8 crore, has been envisaged by the district administration and it will soon be submitted to the State government for approval.” Assuring the inmates of the government’s support, Stalin said, “Chief Minister M Karunanidhi is taking every step to improve the living conditions of the people at various Lankan Tamil camps and I assure you that the government will always stand for your welfare.” Besides distributing free CTVs to 446 Lankan Tamil families, Stalin distributed Rs 2,500 (each) to two beneficiaries for funeral expenses and Rs 20,000 monetary assistance under Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammiaiyar Memorial Marriage Assistance scheme to a Lankan girl at the camp.
He also distributed sports equipment worth Rs 25,000 to youths living in the camp. Besides other officials, State Fisheries Minister K P P Samy, Tiruvallur MLA E A P Shivaji and District Collector Palanikumar attended the function.
