Loyola World Alumni Congress begins on Saturday

CHENNAI: Seventy three personalities from different fields, all of them alumni of Loyola College, will be honoured at the Loyola World Alumni Congress, to be inaugurated by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday.

Theme addresses will be delivered by N Ram, Dr Jabamalai and AK Viswanathan, IPS, at the inaugural session.

A get-together has been slated for the evening, and registration begins at 2.30 pm.

The evening session will witness the foundation stone laying ceremony for the School of Economics and Commerce by PR Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha. The alumni website will be launched by Justice Jasti Chelameswar, Chief Justice, High Court of Kerala.

The awardees of the Congress, include persons of eminence in the field of medicine, including Padmabhushan Dr SS Badrinath, Padmabhushan Dr Prof N Rangabashyam, Padmavibhushan Dr Prathap C Reddy, sportspersons like chess wizard Viswanathan Anand, table tennis player Sharat Kamal, tennis player Ramanathan Krishnan and cricketer AG Milkha Singh, politicians P Chidambaram, MP BS Gnanadesikan, Puducherry Chief Minister Vaithilingam, Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran, apart from film personalities Radharavi, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu and Vikram.
