CHENNAI: The country should be inspired by Bharathiyar who dreamt of free education to the poor, said auditor and economist S Gurumurthy here on Sunday.

Speaking at a function organised by the Sevalaya Trust that conducted an open examination for school students on Bharathiyar here, Gurumurthy said the trust has implemented mahakavi’s dream of running a free school for the benefit of rural poor and destitute. He appreciated the services of Sevalaya in spreading the messages of Bharathiyar by conducting free open book examinations on Bharathiyar across TN for the past 22 years.

Gurumurthy distributed prizes to the winners of the examination and delivered a lecture on ‘Mahakavi Bharathi’s dharma’. He also inaugurated a museum that has hundreds of portraits explaining the life and works of Bharathiyar and his role in freedom struggle on display.
