CHENNAI: No construction activities will be taken up on the disputed land in Maduravoyal, the counsel for Jaya Educational Trust, represented by its chairman KK Selvam, told the Madras High Court on Thursday.

When a batch of writ petitions from VK Krishnamoorthy and five others challenging the orders of the Poonamallee Sub-Judge Saravanaperumal came up for hearing, the Trust counsel told Justice K Venkataraman that no construction or any other activities will be taken up till Monday. According to the petitioners, they were the owners of the land in dispute measuring over 20 acres situated in front of the Maduravoyal police station abutting the national Poonamallee highway.

They were in lawful possession and enjoyment of the land for many decades. While so, Selvam, accompanied by about 200 goons, forcibly entered into the land, threw out the land owners and looted their properties worth several lakhs of rupees, on January 22, 2010.

The police colluded with Selvam and others, TN Advocates Association president S Prabakaran and his senior counsel AL Somayaji contended. They also questioned the validity and veracity of the orders said to be passed by Poonamallee Sub-Judge Saravanaperumal on January 22. Muscle and money power played a vital role in the entire operations on that day, they added. The counsel for the respondents too gave an undertaking that the property in question would not be encumbered in any manner till Monday.
