CHENNAI: Union Minister for Shipping G K Vasan on Saturday released the autobiography of former Supreme Court Judge and former Law Commission Chairman, Justice A R Lakshmanan.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Vasan said, the former Justice has reached this position only through his hard work. “The autobiography would enlighten the youth about the results of hard work, while the lawyer fraternity can get an insight over good verdicts,” he noted.
In his speech, noted Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu praised Lakshmanan for the latter’s contributions to the legal system. He said, the former chairman of Law Commission has functioned as Chief Justice of three different High Courts in the country, delivering around one lakh verdicts during his tenure as a judge. “The most significant among the verdicts were the landmark judgment over ban on smoking in public places, which was aimed at creating a healthy environment,” he pointed out.
Later in his address, Lakshmanan stressed the need for court verdicts being simple such that is could be easily understood by the laymen.
