CHENNAI: The Sankara Nethralaya, on Saturday dedicated an auditorium in the name of V D Swami, who was the founder secretary, of Sankara Nethralaya.

The Boards of Management of Medical Research Foundation, Vision Research Foundation and the family members of Swami remembered him on the occasion.Arvind Sami, son of V D Swami and an actor, said that not just in the professional sphere, V D Swami was a role model of sorts even in the personal sphere. His life span from 1910 to 1993, was marked by achievements of sorts, he said.

M S Swaminathan,(Rajya Sabha MP), chairman, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, said that to dedicate an auditorium in the name of V D Swami, was just the apt thing to do, as he loved the very idea of people being together. He was the one to make Dr S S Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus, Sankara Nethralaya, stay in India. He was a person who believed in sharing happiness with others. He also said that it was V D Swami who first helped him start the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation.

On the occasion, the company, V D Swami Pvt. Ltd., donated Rs 5 lakh to Sankara Nethralaya. A bat with the signatures of crickerts arranged by Krish Srikkanth  will be auctioned and the money will be donated to Sankara Nethralaya.
