CHENNAI: A multi-cultural music performance of popular English hits will be staged by a group from Ireland at Le Royal Meridien, on Friday. Called ‘Toccata’, meaning ‘touch’ in Italian, the group comprises a 40-strong choir from Ireland.

“There will be an Indian orchestra, western choir, western ensemble and two world-class dancers performing for two hours,” said Dr Suniel Paulraj, director-founder of the production company. They had planned to present a tribute to music director Ilayaraja called ‘Do re mi’, that had apparently caught the maestro’s attention so much that “he himself asked us to record the track for him on August 6,” said an excited Paulraj, a doctor based in Belfast.

Chairman of Le Royal Meridien Dr Palani G Periasamy explained how the company had left their day-jobs and journeyed to India to perform for charity.
