CHENNAI: In order to honour musicians who have contributed to the world of music, Mudhra, a full-fledged sabha run by a musician, Mudhra Bhaskar, organised a grand function at the Mudhra’s 17th Fine Arts Festival.
It was inaugurated by SH Keshava, General Manager of Indian Overseas Bank. Appropriately, the invocation for the function was rendered by the Amritavarshini Music of IOB.
Mudhra Bhaskar welcomed the gathering and also outlined the achievements of Mudhra over the past 17 years. He reiterated that Mudhra was not just another sabha – It was a big cultural movement.
The Mudhra Award of Excellence was conferred on the world renowned dance couple VP Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan. A cash prize of one lakh rupees, instituted in memory of P Obul Reddy and Gnanamba, was awarded to the couple.
The chief guests, who graced the occasion were Dr Padma Subramanayam and Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty. Speaking on the occasion, Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty said Mudhra had indeed carved a niche for itself by organising innovative and educative programmes. Also, Dr Padma Subramanyam recalled her long years of association with the Dhananjayans and said that the couple’s dedication and contribution to Bharathnatyam at the global level was indeed commendable.
VP Dhananjayan thanked Mudhra for the honour bestowed on him. He said that if India was known at the global level, it was only because of the country’s various fine art forms which were unparalleled anywhere. He also said, “I thank Mudhra for its noble task of taking our fine arts to the next generation.” The function was followed by a Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna concert.
