CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed that Vijay Sri Hari, biological son of actor Vanitha and her first husband Akash, to undergo a test by a psychiatrist to find out whether he has any deep rooted problem or he is acting under external influences.

Justice V Ramasubramanian gave the direction on Wednesday while passing an interim order on a petition from Akash seeking custody of his son. The direction followed the adamant stand of Sri Hari that he would not go with his mother Vanitha and would stay with  only Akash.

“The kind of aversion that was exhibited by the child towards his mother may either be one that was bottled up in his mind all these years or one that was developed through indoctrination without finding out its root cause, it is not possible to do substantial justice in this case,’’ the judge observed.

In an interview to certain Tamil newspapers, the child had stated that he would resist all attempts to be handed over to the mother. “Therefore, it has become more imperative in this case, than in any other case, to subject the child to a psychiatric evaluation,’’ the judge said.

The judge directed Akash to take the child to Dr V Jayanthini, Head of the Department, Child Guidance Clinic attached to the Government Children’s Hospital in Egmore on or before February 6.

The doctor might examine the child at their consultancy centre in Nandanam extension and find out whether the child had any deep rooted problem or was acting.
