CHENNAI: One of the premier institutions in the city, DG Vaishnav College, has extended its academic arm to now include art. The Shrinath Fine Arts Academy, which falls under Shri Vallabacharya Vidya Sabha, is the new art wing of the institution. Its inauguration, which recently took place at the college premises, was an amalgamation of divine and cultural spirit, and everybody present there took home a flake of it.

The founder patron of the sabha, Goswami Shree108 shree Mathureshwarji Maharajshree, and Shree Goswami Shree 108 Drumil Kumar Mahoday were the chief guests of the evening, and they praised the feat with which the sabha functioned. The Shri Vallabacharya Vidya Sabha was established in 1963 and manages three academic institutions, DG Vaishnav College, Kola Perumal Chetty Vaishnav Higher Secondary School and Kola Saraswathi Sr. Sec. School.

The gurus were honoured by the sabha managing committee members including Krishna Das, Purushotham Das, P Haridas, Govinddas Purushothamdas, SS Goenka and KK Maheswari, after which they released the first calendar of Shrinath Fine Arts.    

The event also marked the felicitation of G Srinivasan, managing director, Sri Aerocool Ltd,  Dr S Narasimhan, principal DG Vaishnav College and SL Chitale, architect of the college for their extended service to the college.Following this, a dance-drama titled, Rukmini Kalyanam, was performed by the artistes of Kalakshetra Foundation. It should be mentioned that this is the third occasion where the Kalakshetra Foundation has staged its dance-drama outside of the dance school. Prior to the performance, the students of  Kola Perumal Chetty Vaishnav Sr. Secondary School narrated Rukmini Kalyanam in English. The auditorium was nearly full throughout the performance and the children were even seen enquiring their parents about Rukmini Kalyanam.
