SETC plans to enter courier services soon

Express News Service

Noticed the catchline Seven Degree Celsius on MTC billboards and wondered what it was all about? It is meant to create a buzz for the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC)’s bold move to enter in the courier service segment.

With a fleet of around 950 buses, the SETC ferries thousands of people across the State and also reaches major cities in the neighbouring states each day. Adding mails to its bouquet of products would be a natural extension of its services, feel officials.

“Seven Degree Celsius stands for the time our courier service would take to send a consignment to its destination. For instance, a consignment from Chennai would reach Salem or Madurai in seven hours,” a transport corporation official says. According to sources, SETC buses would transport the consignments throughout Tamil Nadu. “If a mail is couriered in the morning at Chennai, it should reach Madurai or Salem by the evening. This is what we are aiming at,” the official informs. “The trial run for the courier service has already begun in Salem and Madurai. The service is expected to be officially launched soon,” he adds. At the time of going to press, the tariff for the courier service was not available.
