CHENNAI: Ailing Kera­la Governor M O Hasan Farook Maricar, succumbed to acute renal failure and passed away at a Chennai Hospital, late on Thursday night.

The late Governor had been undergoing dialysis at the Apollo Multispeciality Hospital in Teynampet, ever since he was admitted a month ago, on December 15. Sources at the hospital confirmed that his condition had deteriorated over the past three days and he passed away at 9.30 pm, after a short struggle.

Farook had taken over as Governor of Kerala last September, after reli­nq­uishing the same post in Jharkhand. A resident of Karaikal, the 74-year-old was three-time Chi­ef Minister of Puducherry. The funeral procession from his house will begin at 5pm on Friday.
