Express News Service

Actor Kamal Haasan launched S2 by SPI Cinemas amid much fanfare at the Spectrum Mall, Perambur, on Monday. S2 houses five screens with a capacity of 1,395 seats. The screens are equipped with four-way QSC Speakers. The cinemas will have an array of food counters and a wi-fi enabled lobby.

Speaking at the event, Kamal Haasan said, “Movie viewing has come a long way and the launch of S2, I hope, will take it to the next level. My upcoming film Vishwaroopam has high-decibel action sequences which will require updated audio systems with powerful speakers to make it a thrilling experience for the audience. At S2, with state-of-the-art entertainment technology, every movie will be a different experience.”

Senthil Kumar, managing director, Ganga Foundation, said “We have done 84 residential projects till date; this is our first retail venture. Spectrum Mall is the fifth mall in Chennai, and first in North Chennai.

The mall has a two-basement car park facility, a five-screen cinema, and a food court.”

While standalone theatres were earlier being converted into marriage halls, the evolution of multiplexes changed the scenario altogether. It’s now more than just watching a movie, he adds.

The logo of S2 was then unveiled by Kamal Haasan followed by the screening of the theatrical trailer of Vishwaroopam. Also present at the launch were C Chitti Babu, chairman of Ganga Foundation, and Swaroop Reddy, managing director, Sathyam Cinemas.
