Ente Keralam is hosting the Kuttanadan Food Festival from the October 31 at its restaurants in Poes Garden, MRC Nagar and Anna Nagar. The one-of-its-kind festival will feature the exquisite cuisine of the Kuttanadan region in Kerala’s Alappuzha district.

Native cooking geniuses, the experienced Maria Kutty and Paily Chettan, will be coming all the way from Kuttanadan to Ente Keralam to host the festival. Kuttanad is a renowned region known for its picturesque paddy fields and is one of the few places in the world where farming is carried out below sea level. Fittingly, the place also has a unique cuisine featuring some of the best fresh water fishes from the Vembanad Lake. Fresh catch is traditionally cooked using traditional recipes and ingredients in earthenware, which gives a special flavour to the dishes, and served with the alcoholic beverage, toddy, produced from the sap of palm trees.

Ente Keralam will offer different dishes recreated to reflect the Kuttanadan region’s cuisine. Highlights on the menu will include starters like the Vazhappoo Vada, Fried Banana Flower seasoned with potato mash, Konju Pollichathu, grilled prawns wrapped in banana leaf and Konju Ularthiyathu, a traditional sautéed prawn dish with coconut and tamarind. Authentic must-try gravies are the Chemballi Pacha Kurumulagittathu, a curry made with Chemballi, a local fish of Kuttanadan, cooked in ground green peppercorn and garlic paste, Karimeen Moilee, Pearl spot fish cooked in coconut milk and ginger and Kuttanadan Kalanji Curry, a special regional curry cooked with kalanji fish. Apart from seafood delicacies there will also be select chicken, duck and beef dishes cooked in the traditional Kuttanadan style.

The dishes on the menu are priced at `200 onwards. For reservations and other details call 32216591, 32216590 or 32216589.
