In its second year, the charity dinner organised by The Citizen’s Run Trust took off on a grand note on Thursday at Taj Club House Road among a swarm of supporters.
The dinner event that was started last year to create awareness, had a lucky draw featuring a painting by renowned art director Thota Tharani. The painting, which was generously donated for the event, was a work that summarised the essence of The Citizen’s Run.
Talking about the dinner, trustee, Minnie Menon said, “Starting last year, The Citizen’s Run Trust also arranged a charity dinner to widen awareness and to increase participation in the cause. This dinner was sponsored by the Taj Clubhouse. This year one of the highlights of the evening is a lucky draw.”
The Citizen’s Run Trust was launched in 1996 to mobilise funds for NGOs that have been engaged in a number of social causes. In its 15th year, the city run or walk, a yearly event, has been organised to bring together people from several walks of life for promoting the cause.
Ranvir Shah, founder trustee, says, “ The Citizen’s Run started as a fledgling movement 15 years ago. The aim was to support lesser known NGOs, who were below the radar and yet continuing their exemplary service to help the under-privileged.”
Some of the NGOs include CHILD, an organisation that has been working actively with a limited number of orphans and abandoned children of HIV positive parents. Currently, there are 18 children in the home. Suyam Charitable Trust that is focused on education, medical and awareness related activities and Maihtri Educational Society that is working towards equal access to the fundamental right to education.
