13-day court custody for Vasanthan

Express News Service

Music director James Vasanthan, arrested on charges of verbally abusing an elderly woman, has been remanded in 13-day judicial custody by a local court.

Based on the complaint lodged by Radha Venuprasad, the Neelankarai police had arrested Vasanthan under various sections of the Prevention of Women Harassment Act on Sunday. He was produced before Alandur judicial magistrate Vidhya who remanded him in judicial custody till August 16.

Radha had alleged that Vasanthan had behaved in a very indecent manner on Friday, which prompted her to lodge the complaint.

She denied Vasanthan’s allegation that the police had promptly acted on her complaint just because she and city police commissioner S George hail from the same State. “I don’t even personally know the police commissioner just as I don’t know all the Malayalees in Chennai. We filed the FIR and just sent a copy to the commissioner. Vasanthan has been spreading hatred against Malayalees, which is very cheap,” she said.

Vasanthan has been lodged in the Puzhal prison and has reportedly approached a court seeking bail.

Meanwhile PMK founder S Ramadoss demanded that James Vasanthan be released immediately as there was no prima facie evidence for the crime.
