The editor of the Captain TV’s news division was arrested in the wee hours of Sunday on a complaint of sexual harassment by a former woman employee.

Police said the complainant, who was a sub-editor in the channel until a month ago, had alleged that editor Dinesh Kumar (26) had used inappropriate sexually explicit language towards her in the office, when she was working as his subordinate.

She had worked at the channel for about two months before resigning in November.

“She had complained that Kumar had used inappropriate words at her during office hours. Based on this complaint, we have booked him under Section 4 of Prevention of Harassement of Women Act,” said Madhuravoyal inspector Anand Babu.

However, in a statement, the channel termed the complaint as frivolous. “She had lodged the complaint only after resigning from the office. The police treated Kumar like a criminal and there is no need to arrest him in the middle of the night,” said the statement.

Kumar was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Later, he was lodged in Puzhal Central Prison.
