The US Consulate General, Chennai celebrated World Environment Day with a week’s worth of programmes with the theme of ‘V Go Green’, in association with Youth ExNoRa International.

As part of the week, actor Vijay planted bamboo saplings at the Consulate premises along with US Consulate General, Chennai Consular Chief and Acting Consul General Nick Manring. He also presented ‘Green Awards’ to  those who made an outstanding contribution to protect the environment, and released the “Save Green” poster.

Manring gave the presidential address and said, “All too often, the efforts of those who work closely to make and implement green policies; who tirelessly mobilize the masses against projects that harm our environment; and who spread awareness about protecting the environment, go unnoticed and unsung. I congratulate all the awardees today for their dedication to this most worthwhile cause.”

The week’s celebrations will also see a cycle rally on Marina Beach on June 9.
