SI suspended for thrashing IB official

A sub-inspector attached to Vyasarpadi police station was on Monday suspended for thrashing an Assistant Central Intelligence Officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Police said Thirunavukarasu, currrently posted in Andhra Pradesh, was picked up by policemen from his residence in Vyasarpadi last Tuesday after they could not locate Boopalan who was wanted for attacking Special Sub-inspector Basakaran during a night patrol in Good Shed Street on June 10.

The police team roughed up Thirunavukarasu who told them that he was an IB official. They dragged him to the police station where they beat him. Thirunavukarasu sustained fractures and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital where he was visited by IB officials from Andhra Pradesh.

The incident was brought to the notice of City Police Commissoiner S George who ordered a departmental inquiry by ACP (MKB Nagar) Govi Manoharan. After the probe report was submitted, George suspended the SI Pachamuthu. He also transferred four SIs and placed them in vacancy reserve group until further orders.
