Asan's poetry honour to be awarded to M K Desam

The Asan Memorial Association made an announcement regarding the Annual Poetry award, the Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram, given to noted poets for their outstanding contribution to Malayalam poetry.

The Asan Memorial Association made an announcement regarding the Annual Poetry award, the Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram, given to noted poets for their outstanding contribution to Malayalam poetry.

This year the Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram award will be awarded to  MK Desam, noted Malyalam poet known mainly for his works like Mudra and the translation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali beside his other works like Kanyahrudhayam, Pavizhamali, Ulleham and others.

The poetry awards will take place in a formal function toward the end of October. This is where people across the field of Malayalam poetry field have been recognized for their contributions to Malyalam poetry over the last two decades. He will receive a cash award of Rs 30,000, a memento and citation from the association at this award ceremony for his outstanding works.

Winners of the Award over the previous years include Sreekumaran Thampi, Rameshan Nair, MN Paloor and happens to be the 28th edition of the award. These follows a long tradition of the Institution which is instituted in the Name of Mahakavi Asan, Malyalam poet and social reformer of the early 20th Century to honour people of Malayalam poetry through this award.
