A Green Awareness rally was held by students of Dawn School recently. The rally, school authorities said, was organised to alert every individual in society about the burning issue of global warming.
More than 900 students participated in the event and used social media sites such as Facebook to spread the news of this initiative and also to post messages to fight global warming.
Authorities of the school, which was founded five years ago, said, “Influenced by our founder, we have been propagating the concept of green awareness among our students consistently from the beginning.” The students planted saplings in their neighbourhood as part of the initiative, which was organised on the occasion of Dawn school founder A Vetriazhagan’s birthday.
“The students were elated to plant saplings in and around their places. They feel proud to see the trees grow along with them. This year, we have taken the initiative of propagating ‘Each one! Plant one!’ to fight against global warming. It is a conscious effort to make our children love nature and understand the risk of global warming,” added the officials. The public charitable trust headed by Vetriazhagan, founder correspondent of Dawn School inaugurated the project, Sei, an initiative of the Trust, on the same day. Sei will be providing financial help to cancer patients, help for HIV affected children, educational assistance for the poor and needy, and will be conducting programmes on awareness on global warming.
Eminent personalities from different walks of life also participated in the Green Awareness rally.
