In Memory of a Great Musician

Manabendra Smaraney, a Chennai-based Indian classical music group, will be organising a special music programme, on March 1, as part of its 20th year celebrations. The programme will also be a tribute to the late Manabendra Mukherjee, the legendary and innovative trailblazer of Bangla film and adhunik new-age music.

He was a versatile performer and was always preferred as a playback singer by  great music directors like R C Boral, Gyan Prakash Ghosh, Anil Biswas and Chinmoy Lahiri, to name a few. He also recorded songs penned by Harivansh Rai Bachchan and also lent his voice for N T Rama Rao.

Manabendra Smaraney, which literally means ‘In memory of Manabendra’, came into existence in the 1990s to pay eternal homage to the legend, who passed away in 1992.

The event will see the performance of Shruti Jauhari, well known Hindustani classical vocalist from Chennai, Snigdhadeb Sengupta, a renowned Hindustani classical vocalist from Kolkata, a disciple of the late Debi Ranjan Bandyopadhyay and members of the group.

The event will be held at Raga Sudha Hall, Luz Avenue, Mylapore, from 6 to 9 pm. Contact: 9840299645
