CHENNAI: As two young girls in school uniforms stepped off the stage after an enthused and inspirational talk, the applause from the students of MGR Nagar Government Higher Secondary School was spontaneous. When children talk, other children listen. And what would have been passed off as boring sermons if told by a teacher or a parent were taken seriously, when the talk was delivered by girls of their age.
Students from NSN Matriculation School, Chrompet, have been going around to other schools in the city with their correspondent Chitra Prasad to talk to students about how to take the right decisions in life. Two students from Class XI, Krithika R and Roshni K, spoke to the students of MGR Nagar Government School recently about the values they have learnt from ‘infinitheism’. Talking to them about confidence, belief in oneself and hard work, the students rendered their speech flawlessly in Tamil. And the catchy anecdotes and film references kept the audience engaged...
“Whether it was Charles Dickens, Napoleon or Stevie Wonder, all of them overcame adversity. Even Michael Phelps had Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and won a total of 22 Olympic medals,” said Krithika. “All of you would definitely want to feel like heroes. But you should follow the right path, so that you can be addressed as heroes,” she added. Roshni, on the other hand, spoke about adolescence and the problems that come with it. “Peer pressure may tempt you to do things for mass appeal. But don’t be part of the 90 that follows the crowd, be part of the 10 who are different,” she told the students. And the girls made it clear that all the problems were actually a creation of the mind. “If you look at the Mona Lisa when you are happy you would think she is smiling, but when you look when you are sad, you would think she shares your sorrow,” Roshni stated.
Students from the school have covered 12 schools this year, in both English and Tamil. “We help them out with the talk, but mostly it’s all theirs and what they learn from the philosophy of infinitheism,” said Chitra Prasad.
