Busy Shankar to Promote Kappal

Express News Service

CHENNAI: You’d think that working on his big-budget production Ai would keep Shankar extremely busy, but he’s still found time to promote his former associate’s film. Reviving his production and distribution company S Pictures after four years, Shankar has agreed to release Karthik G Krish’s film Kappal. “Shankar sir has been extremely busy, but when I asked him to try and watch my film, he agreed and came to the lab where the DI work was being done,” explains an elated Karthik. “When the movie ended he really appreciated it and congratulated me on how it has turned out.” Kappal is an out-and-out entertainer that stars Vaibhav and Karunakaran.

After Karthik had mentioned in passing that they were looking at selling the film’s distribution rights, he was surprised to receive a call from his mentor a few days later. “He said that he’d like to buy and release my film and I was very pleasantly surprised because he is a very busy man. He has not been doing this for a while only because of time constraints,” said Karthik, who worked as an assistant director on Shankar’s Endhiran and Sivaji — both with Rajinikanth. Shankar’s S Pictures banner produced films like Kadhal and Kalloori, before stopping with Rettaisuzhi in 2010.

Despite lining up Ai to release for Deepavali, Shankar has assured Kappal’s director that the film will be released on an appropriate day in October or November.
