CHENNAI: The principal in-charge of the Dr Ambedkar Government Arts College in Vyasarpadi has been suspended after Express exposed that he tried to trade seat for money.
The Director of Collegiate Education, M Devadas, told Express that Navamani, who earlier relinquished his post of acting principal, was suspended for malpractices in student admissions. A GO was passed on Thursday evening, he added.
Express on August 11 exposed how Navamani was caught on tape negotiating and accepting money from a prospective student allegedly for admission in B.Com course in the college.
Later, a section of the students had petitioned to the state Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan exposing the scandal.
A DCE team led by the Joint Director of Collegiate Education Kanniga and Additional Director of Collegiate Education Man Singh conducted an inquiry at the institution the next day based on the Express report.
Three students testified against Navamani in front of the inquiry team and a report was sent to the Higher Education department secretary, Apoorva, on August 14 after recording Navamani’s version.
Based on this inquiry report, the government placed the principal under suspension until further orders.
