Express News Service

CHENNAI: A 15-year-old class-X student would have missed writing his Tamil paper in the board exams, after losing his hall ticket in a fire which broke out near Mullai Nagar at Vyasarpadi on Wednesday night, if not for a ward Councillor who convinced the school authorities to allow the boy write the exam without a hall ticket on Thursday.

According to sources, the house of Ajithkumar (15), the student and a resident of Annai Indira Nagar near Mullai Nagar, was one among the eight huts gutted around 10.15 pm.

On noticing the flames, Ajith and his father Jaishankar had run out to safety from their first floor tenement.

The blaze was put out by Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Esplanade, Korukkupet, SM Nagar and Vyasarpadi, along with four Metro water lorries, after a one-hour struggle.

Ajith was found sobbing in the locality by the Corporation Ward no 37 AIADMK Councillor J K Ramesh, who wondered whether any of the boy’s family members were injured in the fire.

The boy told the civic body member about the loss of hall ticket and the books and said how he would be allowed to write the examination.

Ramesh assured Ajithkumar of all help and spoke to the examination centre officials and explained as to how the hall ticket was lost, and later Ajith was allowed to write the exam.
