CHENNAI: After a day of the shutdown, the city is crawling back to normalcy today, despite a continued gloomy atmosphere.

Shops have reopened today and are getting business as usual; most private companies have started functioning as well. Restaurants and hotels are also functioning in the city including online food services that had stopped operations on Tuesday.

Buses are already plying as usual and will continue its regular routes throughout the day, said PRO of Metropolitan Transport Corporation

While cab services in the city did not come to a complete standstill on Tuesday, there were still barely any cabs on the roads and most cabs were charging exorbitant amounts. However, since late Tuesday evening itself, cabs went back to their regular pricing. Even autos were overcharging yesterday but are back on the roads in their regular numbers after a day of mourning.

While not too frequent yesterday, trains are running smoothly today. While it is reported that people are turning up in large numbers to at Marina to visit J Jayalalithaa's grave since this morning, there is no crowd or no blockage of traffic reported anywhere in the city.

While schools and colleges continue to be on leave for the next two days, all other companies and offices are expected to start functioning fully today.
