CHENNAI: Nearly 200 bottles of country liquor loaded in a travel bag were found on Navjeevan Express that was allegedly meant for sale in Chennai slums.
The bag loaded with the bottles remained unclaimed in the unreserved compartment of the express train after it reached Chennai Central from Ahmedabad on Saturday evening. RPF found the bag during its routine check after the train arrived.
Each bottle with 90ml of country liquor was made in Maharashtra, the sources said. “The bottles were likely to be sold in the city’s slums. It appears that these would be sold at twice the price for a quick buck,” a Government Railway Police (GRP) officer said and added that the MRP was `24. GRP has handed over the case to the Prohibition Enforcement wing for further probe. This is second instance of similar liquor being seized from a train from north India in the last six months, sources said. An RPF officer added that the same number of bottles was seized the last time too.
