CHENNAI: YSR Congress Party MP from Rajampet P V Mithun Reddy was arrested at Chennai airport in the wee hours of Sunday for allegedly assaulting an Air India official at Renigunta airport in Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh on November 27 last year.
The MP and another accused, Madhusudhan Reddy, were detained at Chennai airport and were immediately handed over to Andhra Pradesh police who took them to Tirupati and produced them before a magistrate who sent them to judicial custody for 14 days.
On November 27, a case was registered against Mithun Reddy and his family members for manhandling Air India station manager K Rajasekhar after the staff refused them boarding passes for New Delhi claiming that the boarding passes meant for the flight they were supposed to take had already closed.
The MP who got enraged at the refusal picked a quarrel with the AI staff and allegedly slapped him. Subsequently, the airline and the victim lodged separate complaints at the Yerpedu police station.
During investigation, the CCTV footage that captured the incident was scanned and a case for assaulting a public servant on duty was filed against Mithun Reddy and 15 others.
The MP had avoided police interrogation and his anticipatory bail petition too was rejected by a court.
