In the latest development in the Infosys techie murder case, police have unearthed fresh CCTV footage in which a person identical to the descriptions of the suspected killer is seen riding a motorbike along Choolaimedu high road minutes after Swathi was slain at Nungambakkam railway station.

In the video, a man can be seen entering the frame on a motorbike at 06:51:39, coming from the direction of the Nungambakkam railway station. The number plate of the vehicle and the face of the suspect is, however, not clear in the footage. The time and the biker’s similarity to the description given by eyewitnesses about Swathi’s killer have brought him to the attention of the police.

So far, police have been tracking a man found walking near the railway station, based on the eyewitness accounts. But the new footage, showing another person, wearing a similar checked shirt and dark pants, has caused confusion for investigators.

Police are now looking into two scenarios — that the man in the fresh footage is the prime suspect or that he was an accomplice.

About 40 personnel forming part of 10 special police teams are on the hunt for the man who hacked the young techie Swathi to death in the early hours of Friday, June 24.
