The deceased has been identified as C Palani, a resident of BV Colony in Vyasarpadi. Police believed the murder was committed owing to previous enmity. Police suspect involvement of one Kathiravan and a few of his accomplices in the murder and they are looking out for him.

“On Saturday, Palani was standing near the railway station and was speaking over the phone when two men on a motorbike attacked him with sickles. When Palani tried to escape, they chased him and hacked him to death,” said a police source.

Palani was also an accused in the murder of one Muthu Batcha of BV Colony in 2013 and also was involved in the murder of Saravanan of Puzhal in 2014.

Police suspect enmity from these cases could have led to Palani’s murder. Palani was also a relative of ‘Idi Murasu’ S Elangovan, a DMK functionary who was murdered by an eight-member gang in 2013 near Sembium police station on Paper Mills Road in Perambur. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
