CHENNAI:The Institution of Engineers, Chepauk saw the third reiki symposium by The Reiki Council of India on the research and development in healing. Dr Shamal Durve, founder, Reiki India Research Centre, was present.

The keynote address was by Dr Deepak Rout, CEO, Reiki Council of India.  He focussed on how to protect and recognise the science of reiki. “The central Government should recognise the
scientific efforts and document them,” he said. Over 20,000 practitioners are required to take the plea to the government.
Dr Deepak also said yoga should be made compulsory in colleges and schools, and that reiki teaches similar values and must be taught to kids. “Reiki will show children how to respect elders and build a future. It will also probe deeper questions like your purpose in life and who you are. It goes hand in hand with other forms of medicine including ayurveda and homeopathy and it should be taught to all practicing doctors,” Deepak said.

AM Moorthy, vice chancellor, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, spoke about how reiki helps people de-stress. “How many of us are really relaxed when we say ‘am fine’?” he said.
The Reiki Council of India was created in 2016 by a group of reiki masters and is a national body comprising of national reiki teachers and practitioners. The community supports each other and the teachings of the traditional usui form of reiki across the country.
Dr V Thyagarajan, founder, BM Hospital, and KT Raghavan, BJP national speaker, were also present.
