CHENNAI: What happens when three young men get together to talk about their parents? Naturally, a lot of LOL moments when you have Kritarth Srinivasan, Ajay Samson and Rupen Paul come together in a room. They will be in Chennai tomorrow with their recent production ‘Stay Rent Free Stay Foolish’.

“Rupen and I came up with this concept when we did a show for the Coimbatore Humour Society. We realised that the two of us talk a lot about parents and the audience loved that. We got Ajay Samson on board. So this is a show about parents, our parents — but we figured that all parents are the same,” says Kritarth.

Ajay Samson

The trio has been in the field for quite some time — Kritarth for six years and Ajay and Rupen for three years respectively. “Though there isn’t any real common point of contact, the fact that we work in the same city was reason enough for us to come together,” says Kritarth. The boys are all praise about the comedy scene in Chennai. The growth has been really good and people come out in large numbers to appreciate our work.”

Rupen agrees, and adds, “The comedy scene here is on a par with other cities. There are new comics coming up. I first did a show in 2014 and the guys I started out with are still into stand-up comedy. So that speaks for itself."

They have been doing shows in different cities and While Kritarth’s favourite audiences are from Bengaluru and Hyderabad, Rupen likes the audience in Pune. Ajay modestly says he enjoys performing everywhere, but recalls a recent performance in Bengaluru. “Recently I did a show in Urban Solace Cafe, Bengaluru, and I performed in front of just 10 people. But they were such a great audience that they seemed like 200 people. This is my most memorable show,” he says.

Stay Rent Free Stay Foolish will be staged on July 16 from 7.30 pm onwards at Hotel Savera.
