CHENNAI: Seven days after a woman left her 19-year-old mentally- challenged daughter in the care of her husband, the man unable to nurse the girl strangulated her to death at Nerkundram here on Wednesday.
A Kausalya was disturbing her father Adikesavan, an auto driver, as he was getting ready for work. “Unable to tolerate the annoyance, the father strangulated Kausalaya with a nylon rope on Wednesday morning,” said the investigation officer.

Later, he surrendered before the Koyambedu police and confessed to the crime. During investigation it was found that Adikesavan was married to Mohana and the couple had two children- Kausalaya (19) and Ajit (17). “The couple were separated nine years ago and Mohana decided to take Kausalya along with her, while Ajit was staying with the father. Mohana worked as a helper in a private special school in Nerkundram where her daughter was admitted and undergoing treatment. “ added the officer.

On September 13, Mohana left Kausalaya at Adikesavan’s doorstep and has been absconding.
“However, Ajit stayed away from college for more than a week and looked after his sister. On Wednesday, he left for college and Kausalaya was not allowing her father to get ready for work. Neighbours tried to help the father, but the girl did not cooperate. Hence, the irritated father killed the girl,” said the officer. After his confession, police sent the body to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital.
