CHENNAI: Even as their indefinite strike entered the fourth day on Monday, the truck operators looked indomitable in taking forward their stir, saying that they would not rest until seeing positive results to bring relief to the sector.
According to Bal Malkit Singh, chairman of the core committee of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), “With the insensitive attitude of the Union government, the movement has further intensified and is going stronger with more and more transport unions at State, district and taluk levels extending an unstinted support.”
The industry has begun to feel the pinch as the supply of stock of goods is gradually draining. So far, the strike has incurred a combined loss of Rs 16,000 crore to the transport sector, he said.
He charged that certain vested interests were spreading fake news and videos and even indulging in hooliganism on the ground to give the strike a bad name.
Saying that the truck operators’ movement is peaceful he disapproved of any unlawful activities.
“It is the steadfast resolve of the AIMTC that mere assurances will not suffice this time. What we need is positive result to bring relief to our people,” Singh asserted.
Other leaders too expressed the same views saying that the stir would be intensified further and they were prepared to face any eventuality.
