CHENNAI: Eighteen-year-old Sreevatsan, who had both his legs amputated after he was injured in the St Thomas Mount railway station accident on July 24, succumbed to injuries on Thursday night, taking the death toll to five.
“We initially revived him from the shock, but it was a massive crush injury,” said a senior doctor at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Despite the blood and muscle loss, doctors managed to revive him due to acute critical care management, but his condition quickly went downhill, the doctor said.
“Crush injuries sometimes have delayed reactions."
His condition had been critical right from the beginning. We were only hoping against all odds that he may turn around,” the doctor said.Other than Sreevatsan, four youth travelling on the footboard of a EMU
train died after they dashed against a wall at the station and were run over.
