Madras High Court closes cop’s bail plea in gutka scam case

The judge also dismissed as withdrawn two more advance bail pleas, one from  P Senthil Murugan, a Food Safety officer and N K Pandian, Superintendent in Central Excise department.

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has closed an advance bail application from V Sampath, the inspector attached to the Arumuganeri police station, who apprehended arrest in connection with the multi-crore gutka scam case. When the petition came up on Monday, Justice M Dhandapani was told by the counsel for the CBI that Sampath had not been arraigned as an accused in the case. So, recording the submission, the judge closed the plea.

The judge also dismissed as withdrawn two more advance bail pleas, one from  P Senthil Murugan, a Food Safety officer and N K Pandian, Superintendent in Central Excise department. When the judge asked the CBI how many days it would require to complete the investigation of the case against the two accused, the counsel replied that the probe would be completed within the statutory period of 60 days.
