NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has initiated criminal contempt of court proceedings against an advocate for allegedly shouting at a trial court judge and threatening him in open court.
A bench of justices Navin Chawla and Ravinder Dudeja has sought a response from the accused advocate, Rakesh Kumar, in the matter by October 15, the next date of hearing.
The advocate has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The criminal contempt proceedings were initiated by the high court on August 20 following a reference from Tis Hazari Courts District Judge MK Nagpal. The trial court judge reported two incidents.
In the first incident that allegedly took place on April 3, 2025, the lawyer allegedly raised his voice, accusing the trial court judge of acting in a biased manner. The second incident allegedly took place on April 16, 2025, after one of his cases was listed on the wrong date. The lawyer allegedly raised his voice at the judge and demanded a written apology.
The court has also called for the CCTV recording of the trial court proceedings
