NEW DELHI: Police have apprehended one of two accused, a 17-year-old, for allegedly attacking three personnel with bricks and sticks and throwing chilli powder into their eyes while they were patrolling the Bhalswa Dairy in Delhi’s Mukundpur on Saturday. The other accused, however, fled the scene.
The incident took place around 3.30 pm after staff of Bhalswa Dairy police station returned to the area following the seizure of a motorcycle allegedly being driven without valid documents under Section 66 of the Delhi Police (DP) Act, they said.
Head Constables Dinesh and Rajesh had found the motorcycle during patrolling and brought it to the police station for deposition.
"Later, the motorcycle owner and some of his family members allegedly confronted the policemen and turned violent. The accused allegedly threw chilli powder into the eyes of the police personnel and attacked them with bricks and sticks," a police officer said.
"Head Constable Tinu, who reached the spot to assist his colleagues, was also attacked," officer said.
All three personnel sustained injuries. Of them, Dinesh suffered a head injury. They were provided medical treatment and are stated to be stable.
A video purportedly showing the assault on the police personnel also went viral on social media following the incident.
An FIR has been registered at Bhalswa Dairy police station.
Police said the main accused, Sunil alias Pankaj, who remains absconding, is a known bad character in the area. According to officials, five criminal cases have been registered against him, including two under the NDPS Act and others involving serious offences.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused, they said.
