HYDERABAD: Tension prevailed in the Mohammediya Lines after MIM activists obstructed Grand Alliance candidate for Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat Zahed Ali Khan from campaigning in the area. Four cars, which were a part of Zahed Ali Khan’s convoy were damaged. Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse both the groups.

Grand Alliance leaders including CPM candidate from Karwan M Srinivas were conducting a padayatra in the locality when the clash took place.

Local MIM leaders took objection to the padayatra of Zahed Ali Khan in the locality and asked him to leave the place. An altercation took place between the activists of both the parties forcing the police to intervene. Police caned MIM activists as the situation turned volatile.

“The MIM activists pelted stones on cars which were part of the Mahakutami’s candidate before dispersing. Three cars were damaged in the attack,’’ West Zone DCP C Ravi Verma said. MIM candidate from Karwan Assembly seat Afsar Khan reached the spot to stop the police from arresting his party activists.

Police registered a case of mischief against the MIM activists for damaging the cars. The Grand Alliance leaders staged a protest for sometime demanding the arrest of MIM activists and later resumed their campaigning.

Meanwhile, Rein Bazar police registered cases against MIM candidate for Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat Asaduddin Owaisi, Yakutpura Assembly contestant Mumtaz Khan and MBT activists for the clashes that took between the two party workers yesterday. Activists of MIM and MBT clashed during an election campaign at Chunne ki Batti locality leading to mild tension.

Based on a complaint lodged by Yakutpura MBT candidiate Hamza Bin Omar alias Jaffer Pahelwan, police registered cases against Asaduddin Owaisi, Mumtaz Khan and others under various Sections including unlawful assembly and criminal intimidation. A total of six cases under various Sections have been booked against the MIM and MBT activists for the clash. City Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao said a couple of persons who took part in the clashes were nabbed and additional forces have been deployed in the locality to prevent any untoward incident.
