HYDERABAD: The State Government has decided to take up upgrading sewerage system in the capital City and beautification of Hussain Sagar at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore.
At a review meeting at his chambers here today, Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials to hand over the beautification project to Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority.
Revealing the details of the meeting, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy stated that the Chief Minister had directed the officials concerned to prepare a comprehensive project report on the upgradation of sewerage system and Hussain Sagar beautification works.
The Chief Minister had stated that the works would be included in the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Reneawal Mission, the minister informed.
Ramanarayana Reddy said that the Sewage Treatment Plants on the four nalas which were carrying the sewage water and the contaminated water into the Sagar were in place and three more STPs would be set up on them.
These additional STPs would come up at Picket, Balkapur and at Rangadham areas, he informed. Chief Minister directed that the setting up of the STPs should be completed by the end of next year, minister stated.
The Chief Minister also directed the HMWSSB to divert the sewage which was flowing into the Hussain Sagar to the drains of the board.
For this purpose it was decided to take up six sewage diversion works as part of upgrading program, he explained.
The Chief Minister wanted the Sagar be made a fresh water lake by the end of 2011, Ramanarayana Reddy stated.
The surrounding areas of the lake, the Necklace Road, Sanjeavaih Park road and the Tankbund should also be beautified.
He said the KIMS hospital area would also be beautified with lawns and parks.
