HYDERABAD: A Training programme was conducted at the Exhibition Grounds on Thursday for returning officers (ROs), assistant ROs and zonal officers (ZOs) in the conduct of polling and related matters.

Addressing them, Additional Chief Electoral Officer and GHMC Commissioner SP Singh said the offcers should go through the presiding officer’s diary thoroughly and become acquainted with the procedure to make it easy for them to discharge their duties and take care so that the ballot papers are accounted for correctly. ``If it is not tallied properly it will be very difficult at the time of counting of votes,’’ he said.

He asked District Election Officer MT Krishna Babu to brief the officers on magisterial powers for taking proper action during the time of polling. About 300 officers attended the training classes.

ECIL officials presented a live demostration of the functioning of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) through PowerPoint and interacted with the officers to clear their doubts.

Such training programmes will be held at the respective offices of the returning officers on March 29, April 11 and 12.
