HYDERABAD: Cross-cultural ideologies and conflicts, competitions, gang wars and a romance set in a web of hilarious situations was the backbone of the German movie ‘Kebab Connection’. The movie was screened by Goethe-Zentrum in association with the Osmania University Centre for International Programs (OUCIP).

This immigrant feel-good movie directed by the German director Anno Saul revolves around the life of Ibrahim “Ibo” Secmez, a young Turkish-German man who is an aspiring filmmaker.

A clash of cultures and prenatal anxiety ensues after Ibo’s German girlfriend, Titzi, announces that she is pregnant.

Ibo’s father is upset with his son for wanting to start a family with a German woman and banishes him.

Meanwhile Titzi is furious with Ibo for his hesitation in taking on responsibilities of a father. Thus begins the comedy of errors when Ibo tries to please his girlfriend and father and also tries to fulfil his career goals of making the first kungfu film in German. The sub-plots revolve around the competition between a Turkish kebab restaurant and a Greek tavern, a gang trying to extort the owner of the kebab restaurant and the pursuit of both Titzi and her roommate for a spot at a prestigious drama academy.

The situations are funny and convincing, the funny one-liners and the lead character Ibo’s clumsy attempts to straighten his life has the audience in splits. The screening of the movie is a part of a series of German movies that will be screened at the OUCIP campus.
