HYDERABAD: Close to around 400-strong crowd of managing directors, prominent cricket players and business bigwigs were seen embracing each other as time seemed to roll back for the old boys. A few IAS and IPS officials were seen introducing their kids to old buddies. It was a day down the memory lane as the Hyderabad Public School (Ramanthapur) Alumni Association (HPSRAA) organised its Reunion-2010 celebrations on Sunday evening.

Recalling his schools days, former cricket player Venkatapathy Raju revealed he had initially practiced playing cricket in the school cricket ground. “I used to spend more time in the HPS ground playing cricket. It is really a cherished moment meeting all my school friends and teaching faculty,’’ he said.

Another alumni of the 1977-83 batch, P Raghunandhan Reddy, now a real estate tycoon and HPSRAA vice-president, reminisced his days studying at the HPS from Class VI to X. “I frequently visit the HPS campus with my family and remember the school days which were so full of fun,” he said. Ramesh, convener, HPSRAA said this was the first reunion after registration of the association. Former alumni especially from the UK, USA, Australia and from all over the country participated in the event.

Addressing the gathering, A Ranga Rao, president, Hyderabad Public School Society said the school was established in 1972, as an offshoot of Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet. “The HPS is running as many as 22 educational institutions across the country providing education from primary level to high school and has a student strength of 35,000. All alumni should come forward to help in development of the schools and students,” Ranga Rao said.

Raghunandhan Reddy said they would help the students by providing better facilities, organising seminars, academic and career aspect events and inviting prominent educationists for guest lectures.
