HYDERABAD: Bike enthusiasts of the city have a reason to celebrate as the famed Harley-Davidson bikes are all set to roll out from the showroom opening in Banjara Hills on Friday.

After Delhi, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Mumbai, Hyderabad is the fifth city to have a Harley showroom. The dealership of this legendary US bikemaker has been taken by a young Harley lover from the city, Jairam Kambhampati.

“After my masters in New York I had come back to Hyderabad. I was managing my father’s business when I came to know that Harley was entering India. I vied with many others and finally bagged the dealership for Hyderabad.” Jairam’s family owns the Lakshmi group, dealers for Hyundai and Nissan cars. It’s passion more than business interest that has driven this 25-year-old to Harley dealership. “Back in the US, I was a hardcore fan of this bike and was fascinated by the Harley owners group rides. I rode it there and also participated in the group rallies,” he recalled.

According to Jairam, there are already many bookings but the first bike to roll out of the showroom will be his, a fatboy, his favourite model. A buyer has to shell out between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 35 lakh to own any of the 12 versions of CVO, Dyna, Sportster, Touring, Vrod and Softail models to be released here.

Jairam felt that the Indian roads will not be a hindrance for the Harley bikes. “If Audis and other luxury cars are able to run here, I do not see any reason why the Harleys should have a problem.” Harley merchandise like jackets, shoes, helmets, gloves, t-shirts, watches and other interesting stuff will also be available at the outlet.
