“The CR-150 knee joint implant scores over others and has many advantages over the earlier ones in that it does not require cutting of the bone, is flexible and long lasting. The implant uses cobalt chrome to prevent the wear and tear caused to the plastic part that is used in the implant,” said Dr AV Gurava Reddy, MD and CEO, Sunshine Hospitals.
The hospital holds the distinction of conducting around 1,200 implant operations per year and is the only clinical study center in the country for CR-150.
“It is clinically proven that while the previous designs survived up to 15 years, the fourth generation knees are likely to survive much longer.
This is made possible with material advancement like cross linked poly inserts and the highly polished cobalt chrome tibia bone base plates which enable tremendous 89 per cent wear reduction in back side wear in addition to much less wear due to high level activities.
“After knee replacement surgery with CR-150, the western population has been able to get back to high level sports like skiing, sailing and mountaineering without any hassles,” Mr Reddy said.
Dr Gurava Reddy figures among the seven doctors selected from across the world to do research on the CR-150 product.
The cost of knee replacement per knee w o u l d b e around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
