HYDERABAD: Gadwal saree now figures in the patented items list after getting the Geographical Indication (GI) certificate.

Geographical Indication is given to a product which is unique and is prepared in specific region.

The GI certificate was recently issued to the Rajoli Handloom Weaver’s Cooperative Productions Sale Society Ltd, Priyadarshini Mahila Handloom Weaver’s Cooperative Society Ltd., Gadwal Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society and Sri Raja Rajeswari Mixed fabrics Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Ltd in Mahboobnagar district.

The regional office of NABARD felicitated the registration process by sanctioning a grant assistance of Rs.

3.50 lakh to the department of handlooms and textiles of the state government. In addition to Gadwal sarees, NABARD has also supported the Geographical Indication registration of Uppada, Jamdhani and Dharamavaram sarees.
