Gebrueder Teichmann, which translates to ‘Teichmann brothers’ in German, are two siblings on musical journey through South Asia with a purpose - to entertain people with their choice of music and to explore the electronic music scene. “This is an exchange project initiated by the Goethe Institute, wherein we have been given the freedom to give concerts across south Asia, while at the same time doing some research. We are hoping to come up with some kind of collaboration between different musicians and DJs,” explains Hannes Teichmann with a subtle smile.
This duo, who were exposed to music at a very young age, already have an album and an own record label to their credit. During the tour, they have been making some striking observations about the DJ and club scenario in India when compared to that in Europe. “In Europe, a DJ sticks with a particular genre of music and also carves a niche for himself in whatever he plays. But, in India, we observed that DJs play the kind of music that is not only familiar to people but is also appreciated,” opines Andy. Hannes continues, “We come from a culture where we show the kind of music that people are not aware of, and they not only listen to it but tend to enjoy the new taste of music as well.” The duo believes that this research will help them collaborate musicians since music is a universal language.
Andy and Hannes, who made their stop in the city after enthralling the Delhi crowd, are going to entertain city denizens for two hours at Ahala on Wednesday night. “We are not used to playing for such short periods of time but we will try to ensure that we cover a wide range of music,” says an optimistic Hannes.
Ask them about their visit here and Andi promptly answers, “It is a great opportunity for us to explore India, not only as a tourist but also as an insider.” Hannes adds, “As for Hyderabad, it’s warm and we are loving it!”
