HYDERABAD: What is Traditional Yoga? The knowledge of traditional yoga has been passed down through thousands of years, from generation to generation, from teacher to disciple, from yogis to yogis, and has been well preserved in ancient texts.
The type of yoga which takes care of all health problems referred as Hatha Yoga, was given a standard curriculum for the first time around 9th and 10th century by Swatmaramain the lineage of Nath Sampradaya through a book called Hatha Yoga Pradeepika followed by many texts like Hatha Ratnavali, Siva Samhita, Kurantaka Yoga, to name a few.
The techniques taught in these texts cannot be found in any single school of contemporary yoga nowadays. Often the schools which have these techniques are not even known to many yoga Practitioners.
Today’s yoga goes mostly by the popularity of traditions that are not even 100 old, and that too with lot of manipulations done by respective teachers out of their own short lived experiences at the physical level.
Modern Yoga
Yoga is mainly of three kinds --- Yoga meant for rogis (patients) which is the main stream of yoga today; yoga meant for bhogis (fitness seekers) for physical fitness and yoga meant for yogis which prepares them for eternal happiness.
Objectives of Traditional Yoga
